CHICAGO-(AEAE)-Blogs like this one and personal web pages, such as on MySpace and Facebook, provide parties with broad stage for parties to allege potentially defamatory statements were made by the authors. How to defeat such false claims of defamation? A New York Court noted that "statements of opinion are not actionable." Truth is an absolute defense to a defamation claim. Defamation law does not prevent someone from publishing true information about you, no matter how damaging. Opinions are not considered defamatory

What Do You Have To Prove? There are two things you have to prove to be true in order to win a case of defamation of character in the court of law. First of all, you have to prove without a doubt that what was said or written about you is not true. Once you have proved that the statement is, in fact, false you have to prove that the other person said the false statement with the intent of causing you some form of harm.
