The job of a prosecutor is to put people in jail. The U.S. Incarcerates a greater percentage of its population than any other country including Russia, North Korea, China and Iran. Prosecutors use the false designation to enhance sentences by classifying them has not only a crime but a Hate Crime.
Does it make any difference to a murder victim if he was killed by someone who loved him or “hated” him?
However it will make a big difference to the offender if the prosecutor can some how establish that the crime was committed as a result of “hate” verses “love”.
